Bernard Fan

Bernard Fan

is 13 years old. He has been studying the violin since the age of five and is currently under the tutelage of Dr. Conrad Chow. As a former violin student at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Bernard had the opportunity to perform for renowned violinists such as Timothy Chooi and Stefan Jackiw. Passionate about performing, he finds great joy in sharing his music with others.

In 2023, Bernard achieved the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) with Merit from ABRSM. He also won the concerto competition at the Unionville Music Competition and made his debut with the Myriade Quartet, performing the first movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto at their gala concert. That same year, he was a soloist at an annual event hosted by the City of Richmond Hill at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts. Additionally, Bernard was a finalist in the OMFA Provincial Finals in the Classical Upper Strings Diploma Group. He claimed first place in the Toronto Kiwanis Festival ARCT Class and the Royal Sound Music Competition Advanced Class, and secured second and third prizes in the CCC Toronto International Music Festival Violin Concerto Class and the Unionville Music Competition, respectively.

Bernard has also participated in various public performances and competitions across Asia in recent years. He won first place in the 8th Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival, the Asia Pacific Young Musicians Open Competition, the Asia Music Competition for Young Artists in Busan, Korea, and the Wien International Young Musicians Music Competition Final in 2021. In 2020, he received Gold Awards in both the Osaka International Music Competition and the Hong Kong Joint School Music Competition. That year, he also won the 6th Hong Kong Young Violinist Competition and the International Fringe Music Festival.
