The Canadian Sinfonietta Young Artist Competition offers talented young musicians (25 years and under) the opportunity to perform one movement of a concerto, or a concert piece with the orchestra. Up to 10 finalists will be selected from the first round of video auditions and invited to participate in a final live competition. Of the finalists, up to 3 winners will be chosen and featured on our annual Young Artist Concert, held on Sunday May 12, 2019 at 5 PM.

Application and Online Video Due Date: Friday March 1, 2019 (by midnight)
Final Competition: Saturday March 23, 2019 at 2PM (Aster’s Music House, 47 Proctor Ave. Thornhill)
Concert Date: Sunday May 12, 2019 (Mother’s Day) @ 5PM at the Markham C. Church, 22 Esna Park Dr.


  • This competition is open to ALL instruments: strings (including harp), piano, winds, brass, percussion and voice
  • Applicants are required to submit an online video audition of one movement from a concerto or concert piece they have chosen to perform with the orchestra (Applicants must audition with the work they have chosen to perfrom if selected as the winner).
  • Applicants must be 25 years and under
  • Chosen performance piece cannot exceed 15 minutes
  • Chosen performance piece accompaniment can have up to these instruments: 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, strings, timpani
